Take Time to Pray...He Does!
by Mark Pugh
The USA Today recently ran an article about the prayer life of our new president, George
W. Bush. Recently, he met with Macedonian President, Boris Trajkovski. While there, President
Bush invited the Macedonian president into his private study where both men knelt in prayer.
The remarkable thing about the role faith plays in the life of George W. Bush is the fact
that there was a time when it did not play a role. He had an addiction to alcohol and also
had a fiery temper. He gives God all the credit for the changes in his life. I know that
during the teen years, many mistakes are made. I made more than my share when I was a teen.
The example of President Bush reminds us that these mistakes do not have to be life defining.
During the teen years many kids get involved in alcohol, drugs, and sinful sexual conduct.
Unfortunately, some stay ensnared in the web of sin, because they come to think that sin
defines who they are. Others, like President Bush, realize that is not the way they should be
or were meant to be. They turn back to God for the strength that He alone can give to free us
from sin.
The USA Today article goes on to point out that the President starts every day on his knees,
praying. He reads the Bible each morning and studies a daily Bible lesson. According to
President Bush, "I find great strength in my faith. It helps me realize that I am a person that
has a lot of responsibility, but I am just a person - nothing more than a human being who seeks
redemption, solace and strength through something greater than me." Bush says, "I pray all the
time. When I am alone in the Oval Office and something might be on my mind, I will pray." Do you?
