"HONESTY:THE ONLY POLICY"

by Mark Pugh

California congressman Gary Condit has once more proven the importance of honesty. A fellow congressman was critical of Condit for lying at first about his affair with Chandra Levy. He pointed out that if you are less than honest in your answers, then everything else you say is open to questions. You would think after the errors of former president Bill Clinton, that politicians would have learned the importance of being scrupulously honest. Sadly, it seems that the very opposite is the case.

You may have heard the saying, "Honesty is the best policy." That sounds good until you analyze it. To say that honesty is the best policy leaves dishonesty as an option for God's people. God has always soundly condemned lying. The Bible makes it plain that all liars have a place reserved for them in the lake of fire!

When you practice scrupulous honesty, people trust you. They know they can believe in you. They say things like, "He or she's an honest person." The lack of honesty in our society leads many people to list it as the number one quality they look for in others. Yes, honesty is the only policy!
