"Inmates Running The Asylum"
by John M. Davis
Who is in control in your home? Dad? Mom? The Kids? Christ?
I heard of a young man who just discovered the "Children's Bill Of Rights" in his Civics Two class. He marched home and declared to his Mom that he did not need to clean his room or cut his hair. He announced, "No one can tell me what to think, speak or wear." Further he announced, "I have freedom from religion and regardless what you say, I don't have to bow my head, and I sure don't have to pray. I can wear earrings if I want, and pierce my tongue and nose. I can read and watch just what I like, and get tattoos from head to toe. And if you ever spank me, I'll charge you with the crime. I'll back up all the charges with the marks on my behind. Don't you ever touch me, my body's only for my use, not for your hugs and kisses, that's just more child abuse. Don't preach to me about your morals, like your mama did to you. That's nothing more than mind control, and it's illegal too! I have these children's rights, so you can't influence me, or I'll call Children's Services Division better known as C.S.D."
Wow! What an announcement. But Mom's aren't without resources either.
The next day Mom took him shopping at the local Goodwill Store and said, "Pick out all you want, there's shirts and pants galore. I've called and checked with C.S.D. and they didn't care if I bought you K-Mart shoes instead of those Nike Airs. I've cancelled your appointment to take your Driver's test. C.S.D. is unconcerned." Also, "No time to stop and eat or pick up stuff to munch on. Tomorrow you fix your own sack lunch. No snacks, just wait until dinnertime…we're having liver and onions, my favorite dish. No movie for you tonight, I sold my VCR. I also sold your TV for new tires on my car. By the way, I rented your room. You can take the couch. C.S.D. says I only need to provide a roof. No more allowance. I'm selling your jet-ski, dirt bike and roller blades. I can use the money for household expenses."
